The cheapest solution for your first Home Automation system

In this article, I will show you the best and cheapest way to start your Home Automation project:

1) Raspberry Pi
The core of your Home Automation System is the server. In this example we will start with the Raspberry pi 3, available around 40€.
You should also add :
- 1 SD card
- 1 micro USB power supply charger
- 1 Protective box (optional)

2) Zigbee Protocol (Xiaomi Home starter Kit)
For the lowest price, I would recommand to try Xiaomi Home. I have been really impressed by this stuff ! It uses Zigbee protocol. For more information about these products, please have look at my previous article Here.

3) Redundancy and security
At some point, because of the fragility of the SD card (it happens that after a year of daily use, the SD card could crash). You would have to restore the database with your backup.

- A HDD plugged via USB in your Raspberry Pi is a great solution to keep your backups secured (via NFS)

- A UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) could be very helpful in case of power interruptions.
You could get one online for an attractive price.

In my opinion, this is the best to start it, and already automate many things at Home =)
In the next post, you will learn how to install easily Jeedom on your Raspberry Pi (or any other Linux Machine).
